Married couple Charlotte and Henrik Jorst left their homeland of Denmark and moved to America in 1989 to follow their dream. Their dream was to set up their own business and introduce Danish design into the lives of many. Skagen designs were founded with the philosophy of designing high-quality contemporary accessories from watches, clocks, sunglasses and jewellery at reasonable prices.

By 1993 Charlotte and Jorst decided to relocate their home run business from Long Island to Lake Tahoe, Nevada. In 1995 the Jorst’s hit gold when Bloomingdales becomes the first department store to showcase the Skagen brand. This had a knock on effect and was soon launched in other department stores. Within two years of their brands success Skagen enters into the European market. 1999 Skagen Designs are named as one of the fastest growing small businesses in the United States.
