1st Mars Experimental Simulation Test Completed with Fortis Onboard

1st Mars Experimental Simulation Test Completed with Fortis Onboard

Fortis have long been an official time keeping agency for space watches due to their outstanding design and manufacturing qualities, which allows them to withstand the harsh and demanding environments experienced by Astronauts, and be used for forthcoming missions such as the one planned to Mars in 2030. Fortis watches are part of the Cosmonauts official equipment. Following on from this comes a new experiment which requires a new watch. The pioneering space experiment of the European, German, Russian and Chinese space agency placed 6 astronauts in a container for more than 15 months to simulate a flight to Mars. This allowed them to generate scientific information for the future flight planned for 2030.

On the 4th November 2011 we saw the end to the 520 day experiment, and as they emerged out of the container so did the Fortis Mars 500 watch which supported the mission. This now limited edition watch comes in a titanium black ion plated case which houses a Swiss automatic movement which will keep running regardless of the external environment. Each watch has the embossed logo on the side of the dial case and on the case back itself. With only 2012 pieces produced worldwide it gives those space enthusiasts the opportunity to purchase a limited edition commemorative timepiece.
