Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman Diver's : Then and Now
American Spirit, Swiss Precision. Those are the qualities Hamilton Watch Co has prided themselves on since the very beginning in 1892 in Pennsylvania, USA. Throughout the years they have developed and refined their own signature style, making watches that are both aesthetically pleasing and serve a purpose.
A perfect example of this is the Hamilton Khaki Navy Frogman, revived and redesigned for 2016 while still keeping elements of its original design from over 50 years ago.
Hamilton stopped producing watches for consumers in 1942 to be able to solely produce for the forces in the war at the time, eventually providing over one million timepieces. The original Hamilton Frogman became vital naval equipment enabling calculation of longitude, plotting location and direction to find position to avoid enemy interception through radio signals.
The original watch became so recognisable and iconic, it was the first Hamilton watch to appear in a film; Oscar-nominated movie “The Frogmen” in 1951.
Having proven itself to be able to meet demands on such a huge scale and also provide accuracy and efficiency, Hamilton Watch Co were awarded with a US Army-Navy “E” Award for ‘excellence in production of military equipment’.
While the 2016 version of the Frogman is a direct tribute to its military-grade predecessor, the appearance is notably modern. The watch features a large crown protector, inspired by the original model. It also boasts an automatic movement, 46mm lightweight yet robust titanium case, non-reflective sapphire crystal, black rubber strap with a tactile finish, striking one directional rotating bezel and most importantly, it is water resistant to 1,000 metres.
Another impressive feature worth noting is the helium valve incorporated into the watch. This component allows the wearer to dive to incredible depths, safe in the knowledge the watch can withstand the pressure encountered and even out these pressures on resurfacing, causing no damage to the watch internally or externally.
For those not so keen on deep sea diving, Hamilton have also created a similar style automatic Frogman featuring a more modest 300 metre water resistancy, 42mm case in stainless steel, a stainless steel bracelet with divers extension complete with stunning colour ways of black or blue.
Every aspect of the Frogman displays outstanding quality but whichever Hamilton style you choose, you are guaranteed functionality, practicality and style.
