Seiko’s New Additions to the Prospex Family: The Blue Lagoon Turtle and Samurai

Seiko’s New Additions to the Prospex Family: The Blue Lagoon Turtle and Samurai

Here at Creative Watch Co, we have been an authorised dealer of Seiko watches for many years. We have a fantastic relationship with the brand and because of this, are able to secure the first pieces of new limited edition ranges that are produced. Meet the new Blue Lagoon collection that is heading to our showroom very soon!

The Seiko Prospex collection, standing for ‘Professional Specification’ is of a notoriously high standard for amateur and professional divers alike. Any avid watch collector will instantly recognise the new vintage inspired additions to the Seiko Prospex family, taken from the extremely popular designs of the Turtle and the Samurai pieces (references SRPB09 and SRPB11).
The Turtle has most recently been on our radar thanks to the partnership between Seiko and diving corporation PADI who joined forces to produce a Special Edition Automatic Divers Turtle (reference SRPA21, released in 2016) that continues to sell out of our showroom rapidly.
Like its most recent counterpart and staying true to its nickname, the Blue Lagoon Turtle features the classic 45mm stainless steel domed case shape the ‘Seikoholics’ or ‘Seikopaths’ know and love alongside the screw in crown positioned at 4 o’clock, an instant giveaway of its Turtle influence. As part of the Blue Lagoon series, it’s only natural the tones throughout remain true to name. The stunning blue dial actually changes with movement depending on lighting conditions, while the unidirectional bezel displays both turquoise and navy blue. The useful day/date function remains at the 3 o’clock position while the indexes and hands are all white silver with fantastic luminous properties, perfect while diving into the dark depths.
The new Turtle piece is powered by the automatic 4R calibre with power reserve of 41 hours and guarantees water resistance to 200 metres. The stainless steel bracelet features part brushed, part polished links, complete with divers extension clasp, however a rubber strap is available for this piece offering the wearer diversity for any occasion.

Although similar at a glance, the re-worked Seiko ‘Samurai’ is starkly different to the Turtle in many ways. Most obvious is the unique shape of the 43.8mm case, getting its name from the sharp angular edges that could have almost been cut by a sword, the Samurai was born. With an entirely brushed finish, the bracelet and case give a modern and youthful feel to an already well established aesthetic. Again, the Blue Lagoon theme runs throughout the piece with beautiful ocean blue sun-burst dial, changing slightly when moved in light, surrounded by the unidirectional bezel also in different shades of blue. Unlike the Turtle, the day is not featured; however the date is, neatly sat at the 3 o’clock position. The luminous indexes and hands are slightly oversized and make for superb clarity, especially the quirky arrow shaped hour hand. The screw down crown offers maximum security when diving, promising 200 metres of water resistance. As any divers watch should, the solid stainless steel bracelet offers a 3 fold clasp, security lock and extension.
Just like the Turtle, the inside is just as important as the outside, with this piece housing an automatic 4R calibre movement, ensuring the wearer 41 hours power reserve once fully wound.

With both being classed as Special Editions, we can expect a limited number available for UK sale. With the release date expected in February 2017 for both pieces, we will be one of the first retailers in the UK to have these stunning watches in our showroom. Seiko have announced the Turtle will retail at £449 and the Samurai is priced at £399, arguably the most affordable range of divers’ watches for the quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Whether you are a Turtle or a Samurai lover, both have outstanding functions, features and finishes that no watch collector can be without.
We are currently taking pre-orders for both pieces so please contact us via or head to our website for more information on specifications and the ordering process.

If you aren’t lucky enough to get your hands on the Blue Lagoon collection, it is worth noting we carry a wide selection of the Prospex range, including the Prospex Marinemaster Professional Tuna 1000m.
